Samadhi darshan at the mandir
The heart of the visit is darshan of Shri Gajanan Maharaj's samadhi in the main mandir. The temple opens before dawn with kakad aarti and stays open until night; queues are longest late morning and on weekends, and shortest in the very early morning — the calmest darshan of all.
The mandir complex is well organised, with shoe stands, drinking water and orderly queues managed by the Sansthan's famously disciplined sevaks. Photography inside the sanctum is not permitted.
Aarti and darshan timings can change on Utsav days — verify current timings locally or on the official Sansthan website when you arrive.
Anand Sagar
Anand Sagar is the Sansthan's vast spiritual and garden complex on the edge of town — landscaped grounds, a large lake, meditation spaces, and shaded walkways. It is a gentle half-day outing, especially loved by families with children and elders.
The complex has an entry ticket and fixed visiting hours (roughly morning to evening). Go in the cooler hours; the grounds are extensive and involve a fair amount of walking, with battery-cart options inside.
Mahaprasad and the famous kachori
- Take mahaprasad at the Sansthan's bhojan facilities — simple, sattvik and served with remarkable order.
- Shegaon kachori is a local legend; you will find it at shops around the mandir and near the station. Take some home.
- The bazaar lanes around the mandir sell pooja items, framed images of the Maharaj, and the Shri Gajanan Vijay Granth.
A realistic plan
- Day 1 morning: arrive by overnight train, check in, freshen up, mandir darshan before noon.
- Day 1 afternoon: rest through the heat, mahaprasad, evening aarti at the mandir.
- Day 2 morning: Anand Sagar in the cool hours, return for a final darshan, depart after lunch.
- Single-day visit: early darshan, Anand Sagar till mid-afternoon, evening departure.
